Not everyone who leaves their corporate job to start their own business does it entirely out of choice. A significant number of people feel self employment is their only option because the conventional workplace doesn’t work for them.

Today’s guest, Ursula Tavender, couldn’t find a job that that suited how she wanted to live her life as a parent—certainly not without making sacrifices she didn't want to make! So she set up her own business, helping change that story for other women.

Now advising government and working with organistaions to create more flexible working arrangements, especially helping managers understand how their attitudes need to change in order to do flex well.

In our interview we talk about how Ursula set up her business, her experiences of trying to get back in to conventional work, and how to make flex work better. In particular we talk about how to get started if you want to work more flexibly either as you transition out of your job entirely, or alongside your part time business, or because that would actually mean you don’t have to leave your job at all!
